Privacy notice
Stryver helps you do more of the good things in life, on your own or with the people you love. This notice explains what information we keep about you, why, who else is involved, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to write it the way we’d want it written for us.
The short version
- We keep what we need to run Stryver: your account, your Stryves and what you log.
- We don’t sell your information, and we don’t show you adverts from ad networks.
- People only see what you choose to share with them.
- Usage statistics help us improve Stryver. They’re not linked to your account, and you can turn them off.
- We also count how much each account uses Stryver, as totals (never what you log, or when). You can turn that off too.
- You can download everything, change it, or delete your account at any time.
Who we are
Stryver is run by Stryver Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17522956). Our registered office is 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. We’re the “controller” of your information, which means we decide how it’s used and we’re responsible for it.
Questions or requests about your privacy: our contact form. We’re registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration number ZC276054.
Stryver is for adults (18 and over). If you’re under 18, please don’t create an account.
What we keep, and why
Your account
- Your email address, first name and surname (optional), and how you sign in (an email code, Sign in with Apple or Google). We need these to run your account and let you sign in. If you sign in with Apple, we keep a token from Apple only so that we can tell Apple when you delete your account.
- Your date of birth, to check you’re 18 or over.
- Your profile: your colour, a line about you if you write one, and a profile photo if you add one. Your photo is stored privately. Only you see it until it’s been checked; after that, your Stryve Buddies and the people in your Stryves can see it. You can change or remove it at any time.
Why we can do this: we need it to provide Stryver to you (our contract with you).
What you track
- Your Stryves, the activities in them, your targets, and what you log (including details you add, such as how long or how far). This is the heart of Stryver.
- Your own activities. If you name an activity yourself, we check the name automatically (see “Checks on names” below).
- “Build it for me”. If you describe what you’d like and ask us to build a Stryve, your words are sent to our AI provider to draft it. We ask your permission the first time. We don’t keep your words; we keep the draft and which activities it suggested.
Stryver is a lifestyle and wellbeing app, not a health app. We don’t ask about or keep health conditions or treatment, and we never use what you track to guess anything about your health. Some activities are for adults only (such as Alcohol-free, Smoke-free and Vape-free days). Activities connected with faith, such as Prayer, are never used for offers and never shared outside Stryver.
Why we can do this: to provide Stryver to you (contract). For Build it for me, your consent, which you can withdraw in Preferences.
People you track with
- Stryves you share. When you share a Stryve or join one, the people in it see your first name, your colour or photo, and the progress you make in that Stryve. They don’t see your other Stryves.
- Stryve Buddies. A Buddy is someone you’ve connected with. You choose what each Buddy can see, and whether they can log for you. If a Buddy logs something for you, we record that they did.
- Invitations. When you invite someone, we use the details you give us to send the invitation. Someone opening an invitation link sees the Stryve’s name and the first names of the people in it, nothing more.
Why we can do this: to provide the features you choose (contract).
My Stryvers (your children)
You can add a child who doesn’t have an account, called a My Stryver, and log for them. You confirm you’re their parent or guardian. We keep only a first name or nickname, an emoji, and what you log for them. Nothing about a My Stryver is used for offers, analytics profiles or reporting to anyone. Adult-only activities can’t be added for them. More in “My Stryvers” at the end of this notice.
Why we can do this: our legitimate interest in letting parents and guardians track activities for their children, which we’ve weighed against the child’s interests (see the end of this notice).
Messages and notifications
- Emails we must send: sign-in codes, invitations, and messages about your account (such as confirming a deletion). These are always on.
- Tips for using Stryver: now and then, an email to help you get the most from the app, mostly in your first weeks. They’re about Stryver itself, never adverts. They’re on unless you turn them off, from the link in any of them or in Profile › Preferences › Emails.
- What’s new at Stryver: new ready-made Stryves, features and offers from Stryver. Never daily, and only if you say yes. You can stop at any time from the email or in Preferences.
- Partner emails: offers from brands we work with in sport, outdoors, food and drink, and days out. Only if you say yes; it’s a separate choice from What’s new. We send these emails ourselves and never share your email address, or anything else about you, with a partner. The brands we work with are listed in the app, in Profile › Preferences › Emails › Partner emails › Details (there are none yet). You can stop at any time from the email or in Preferences.
- Notifications on your phone: only if you allow them. Your phone gives us a token so we can send them, and you choose which ones you get in Preferences. Notifications are never marketing.
- A daily reminder is on once you allow notifications: one nudge at 8pm (or a time you choose), only on days you haven’t logged anything, and it never says what you log. Your phone schedules it itself; we keep only whether it’s on and its time, so it survives a reinstall. Turn it off in Preferences any time.
Why we can do this: account emails and notifications you’ve allowed, to provide Stryver (contract); tips emails and the daily reminder, our legitimate interest in helping you get the most from Stryver, with an easy way to turn them off; What’s new and partner emails, your consent.
Offers inside the app
Stryver is free because it can show offers in the app based on what you track (for example, a running brand if you log runs). Offers are chosen inside Stryver; partners don’t get your information. Offers never use Smoke-free, Vape-free or faith activities, your own activity names, or anything about a My Stryver. You can turn offers off in Preferences, and we stop straight away.
Why we can do this: our legitimate interest in keeping Stryver free. You have an absolute right to object to this; see “Your right to object” below.
Usage statistics
We collect statistics about how Stryver is used, such as which screens are opened and where people get stuck, so we can improve it. They’re recorded against a random code on your phone, not linked to your account, and the code changes when you sign out. They never include your name, email, your own activity names or anything you write.
They include your approximate area (country, region, town or city, and the first half of a postcode), worked out from your connection. We don’t keep your IP address. We use these combined, anonymous statistics, including which areas Stryver is used in, to improve the app and to decide where to tell people about it. They’re never used to target you personally.
You can turn usage statistics off in Preferences › Share usage stats.
Why we can do this: our legitimate interest in improving Stryver, under the exception for statistical purposes in the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.
Activity insights
We count how much each account uses Stryver, as totals with your name on them: how often you open the app, and how many logs, activities and Stryves started or finished you have. It shows us how Stryver is doing and who our most active members are, and, added up across everyone, helps us decide how to grow Stryver. We never look at what you log, or when: the totals have no dates or times. We don’t use your totals to pick offers or adverts for you, and we don’t share them.
You can turn this off any time in Preferences › Activity insights. We stop counting, delete your app opens and leave you out. Nothing else changes.
Why we can do this: our legitimate interest in running and improving Stryver.
Crash reports
If Stryver crashes or something goes wrong, we receive a report with your account’s internal id, your phone model and what went wrong, so we can fix it. It doesn’t include what’s on your screen.
Why we can do this: our legitimate interest in keeping Stryver working.
Checks on names
Names that other people will see, such as a Stryve’s name, your name or a My Stryver’s name, and the names of activities you create, are checked automatically to keep Stryver kind and safe. Only the name is sent to our AI provider, with nothing that identifies you, and only when someone else is about to see it (activity names are checked when you create them). If a name can’t be used, we tell you, and you can ask us to look at it. A person may then review it.
Why we can do this: our legitimate interest in keeping Stryver safe for everyone.
Unlock with Face ID or a fingerprint
If you turn this on, your phone checks your face or fingerprint. We never receive it: your phone only tells Stryver yes or no.
Subscriptions (Stryver Plus)
If you subscribe, Apple or Google takes the payment; we never see your card. We keep which plan you have and until when, and our subscription provider keeps your purchase history so your subscription works on your devices.
Why we can do this: to provide what you’ve paid for (contract), and to keep records the law requires.
Our website (stryver.app)
- The waitlist. If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address, the page you signed up on (and the ready-made Stryve, if you were on one), whether you asked for the occasional idea by email, any campaign details in the link you arrived from (such as
utm_source), and the name of the website that sent you. It’s stored in our database, in the UK. We use it to tell you when Stryver launches, and to send occasional ideas only if you asked for them. More in our waitlist privacy notice. - Website statistics. We count visits with our analytics provider in a cookieless mode: nothing is stored on your device, we don’t record what you type or replay your visit, and it’s not linked to you. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we don’t collect website statistics at all. More in our cookies notice.
- Hosting. Our website hosting provider keeps standard server logs to run and protect it.
Why we can do this: for the waitlist, your request to hear from us (and your consent for occasional ideas); for statistics and hosting, our legitimate interest in running and improving the website.
Who else is involved
We use trusted service providers to run Stryver. They only use your information to do this work for us, under contracts that protect it, and they can’t use it for anything of their own.
| Type of provider | What they do for us | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud hosting and database | Stores your account, Stryves, logs and photos, and runs sign-in | UK (London) |
| Product analytics | Usage statistics, not linked to your account | EU |
| Crash reporting | Tells us when the app breaks, so we can fix it | EU |
| AI service | Checks the names of activities you create, and drafts a Stryve when you ask (Build it for me). It receives the words only, never who you are | EU |
| Email delivery | Sends sign-in codes and account emails | US |
| Notification delivery | Delivers notifications to your phone | US |
| Subscription management | Keeps track of Stryver Plus bought through the App Store or Google Play | US |
| Website hosting | Hosts our website and invitation links | US and worldwide |
Where your information goes outside the UK, it’s protected by the UK’s approved safeguards: the UK–US “data bridge” where the provider has signed up to it, or the ICO’s approved contract terms.
If you’d like to know which companies these are, ask us using our contact form and we’ll tell you.
Apple and Google are responsible for their own sign-in, app stores and payments. Their privacy notices apply to those.
We never sell your information. Partners and sponsors never receive information about you. If we ever share figures with a sponsor of a Stryve, they’re anonymous totals for groups of at least 10 people.
We may share information if the law requires it, for example with the police under a valid request, or to protect people from harm.
How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account and what you’ve tracked | Until you delete your account, then 30 days (see below) |
| A Stryve you delete | Kept for 30 days in case you ask us to restore it, then removed for good |
| Your profile photo | Until you remove it or delete your account; removed from storage within a day after that |
| Build it for me | Your words: not kept. Drafts: until you delete your account |
| Records of what you agreed to | While your account exists, then a minimal record for 6 years after deletion (to show we asked properly) |
| Notification send records | 7 days |
| Usage statistics | 26 months. Anonymous totals and reports made from them aren’t about anyone, so we keep those |
| Your app opens count (activity insights) | Until you turn activity insights off or delete your account |
| Crash reports | Up to 90 days |
| Support emails and rights requests | 3 years after they’re closed |
| Subscription and payment records | 6 years (the law requires us to keep accounting records) |
| Notifications in the app (the bell) | 12 months |
| A person’s review of a name | 12 months after the review (the decision stays with the name) |
| An account nobody has used for 3 years | We email first; if you don’t sign in, it’s deleted as above |
| Waitlist sign-ups (website) | Until 12 months after Stryver launches, or until you unsubscribe, whichever is sooner |
Backups are kept for 7 days by our database provider and then overwritten. If we ever restore one, we delete again anything that was deleted after it was made.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in Profile › Manage account › Delete my account. Your account is deleted 30 days later. We email you to remind you, and signing in again before then keeps it. After 30 days, your account, everything you’ve tracked, your photo and your My Stryvers are deleted. (You can hand a My Stryver to a Stryve Buddy first, in My Stryvers.) In Stryves you shared, other people keep their own copies; what you logged leaves with you.
Your rights
You can:
- See your information. Download everything in Profile › Manage account › Download my data, or ask us.
- Correct it. Most things you can change yourself in the app.
- Delete it. Delete your account (above), or ask us.
- Take it with you. The download is a file you can keep or use elsewhere.
- Restrict how we use it, while a question about it is sorted out.
- Withdraw consent for anything you agreed to, in Preferences, at any time.
Your right to object
You can object to anything we do on the basis of our legitimate interests. You can always object to offers, usage statistics and activity insights: turn them off in Preferences, and we stop straight away. For anything else, email us and tell us why.
To use any of these rights, use our contact form. We’ll reply within a month. It’s free.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Keeping it safe
Your information is encrypted when it travels and when it’s stored. Every table in our database has rules so that people can only reach what they’re allowed to see. Only a small number of people at Stryver can reach your information, and only to support you or keep Stryver running. If something ever went wrong, we’d tell the ICO, and you if you were affected, as the law requires.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this notice and tell you in the app before the change matters to you.
My Stryvers
This section is for children who are tracked as a My Stryver, and their parents and guardians. It’s linked from the app when you add one (stryver.app/privacy#my-stryvers).
A My Stryver is a child without their own Stryver account, added by a parent or guardian so they can log things together, like reading or time outside.
- What we keep: a first name or nickname, an emoji, and what’s logged for them. No date of birth, no email, no photo.
- Who sees it: the parent or guardian who added them, and anyone they choose to share with (a Stryve Buddy, or the people in a shared Stryve).
- What we never do: use it for offers, analytics profiles or sponsor reports, or add adult-only activities.
- Why we can do this: our legitimate interest in letting parents and guardians track activities for their children, weighed against the child’s interests. We rely on the adult’s confirmation that they’re the parent or guardian.
- Deleting: the parent or guardian can delete a My Stryver at any time, and everything logged for them goes too. If the parent or guardian deletes their account, their My Stryvers are deleted with it, unless they’ve handed them to a Stryve Buddy first.
- Rights: a child, or their parent or guardian, can use the rights above by contacting us.
